About me

I suppose the process of acceptance will pass through the usual four stages: i) this is worthless nonsense; ii) this is an interesting, but perverse, point of view; iii) this is true, but quite unimportant; iv) I always said so"

(J.B.S. Haldane)

"Lucky is he who has been able to understand the causes of things" (Virgil)

"You are smarter than your data"

(J. Pearl)

Welcome to my personal website!

I am Director of Research in the Empirical Scientific Approaches team of UBS Investment Bank Research in London, where we use hypothesis-driven empirical methods to help sell-side Investment Research teams make better stock recommandations.

As an economist with broad research interests, for more than a decade I have enjoyed using data and empirical methods to answer policy and business questions, at the Bank of England, the European Central Bank, BRUEGEL, and the University of Birmingham

My academic works have been published in journals such as Economic Policy, Economics Letters, and European Journal of Political Economy; my policy work has been covered by media such as The Economist and Bloomberg; my commentaries have been featured on The Guardian, Raconteur, Evening Standard, and others.
